Glazes glittering decorations, feathers and fur of wild animals decorating hats and helmets, steel shining blades of swords and daggers ... Difficult to curb the imagination in the face of these artifacts.
The market for antique weapons is no longer flourishing as it once was, having been almost completely demolished by Law 110 of 1975, which requires special licenses and ports for weapons purchase halberd of the '500.
However, for those who want to take a dip in the glories of the past, in the Baboon withstands more than forty years the Armory Antiques Soligo.
The owner started in 1960 dedicating antiques gender, preferring the old phones, which was brown or restore.
"One that was found later - Aldo says Soligo - so much so that I had purchased several from many film stars, from Ingrid Bergman, to Steve McQueen, to the brothers De Filippo. But soon the passion for history led me to ancient weapons , enclosing all that could be linked to them: medals, orders of chivalry, uniforms, helmets, documents, paintings, bronzes, miniatures, toy soldiers of all ages and historical relics of the Risorgimento.
Same Soligo is proud to be descended from a partisan of the "Thousand", which fell in a clash with soldiers in the papal Radicofani.
Passionate collectors of the Risorgimento were Bettino Craxi and Giovanni Spadolini that, at the gallery on Via del Babuino, was supplying military memorabilia, paintings and books on the history of Italy.
A relationship of sincere friendship bound the "King of May" to Aldo Soligo Umberto II, who became the official supplier to the Royal Household.
Recently, there is also the possibility of creating a bridal registry at the shop, for whom, in the vein of originality, it would rather give away the bride and groom a piece of history, instead of the usual tea.
