Description
What was Rome at the time of Goethe? With the exhibition Piranesi, Rembrandt ruins Goethe House undertakes a journey in a city that no longer exists, although much is still recognizable today. From February 17 to 17 April 2010, the only German museum abroad organizes for the first time an exhibition of the famous engraver Giovanni Battista Piranesi (1720-1778), presenting as a central part of the museum collection: a selection of 30 etchings by most monumental works of Piranesi, the views of Rome. Display boards extraordinary freshness, certainly among the first pulled from the venetian master.
During the exhibition Goethe House presents for the first time a major permanent loan to Rechburg and Betzkoj Associates (RB), a pen drawing of 1787 attributed to JW Goethe, newly discovered, depicting a landscape with Italian monastery.
