From 22 September to 22 November the Casina di Raffaello di Villa Borghese celebrated with an exhibition and a series of workshops one of the most important writers for children. Fifty years after publishing her first book, Little Blue and Little Yellow, the Casina di Raffaello - Villa Borghese toy library to educational policies that the School Department of Family and Youth of the Municipality of Rome has for children aged 3 to 10 years - Leo Lionni celebrated with an exhibition dedicated to his children's books and a series of workshops inspired by his work.

Lionni and is born from the idea that art can contribute positively to the growth and development of children by stimulating their imagination. Following the principle of an idea of the game transparent, balanced and responsible that the lottery wants to convey. Among the more than 40 works on display will be possible to see some original works by Leo Lionni provided by the family, but also many works from the Archive of the Italian designer Andrea Rauch and the illustration Italian Antonella Abbatiello who made the graphics for three short films of animation inspired by the books Lionni. Part of the exhibition also five animated videos created by Lionni with director Giulio Gianini the late '70s, drawn by stories of Guizzino, E 'mio!, Cornelius, A fish is a fish and Frederick.

The exhibition is spread into different sections: the first is dedicated to Frederick (1967) and Alexander and the mechanical mouse (1969), stories that have as protagonists of mice, animals are very dear to Lionni, also present in other tales such as The Mouse tailed Green (1973) or Matthew's Dream
(1991). Follows a section devoted to two other stories, which have instead featuring two fish: Guizzino (1963) and A fish is a fish (1970). Here are exhibited by Antonella Abbatiello graphics used for the realization of related shorts.
Even the next section presents the graphical performed by Lionni and Antonella Abbatiello for short films drawn from stories Cornelius (1983) and E 'mio!; In the same room there are also some tables taken from a color of my own (1975-76). The exhibition concludes with tables of original works drawn from Theodore and the fungus speaker, story written in 1971 and published for the first time in Italy in 2009 by the publisher Babalibri.

Within the same space you can also admire the collection of books from Lionni Jugendbibliothek of Monaco with old editions in Italian, Japanese, Persian and Dutch. In a separate room will screen five animated videos and exhibited the originals of the various characters used in animation. The exhibition will be complemented by several laboratories inspired techniques Lionni and his fairy tales and a series of workshops designed and maintained by Antonella Abbatiello headed for credit card Lionni. The latter, for kids aged 5 years and older, will lead to the creation of a large panel, rich graphics suggested by the works of Lionni (botany, landscape and
characters). All activities will take place inside the room Giani, thanks to the project by Antonella Abbatiello and the contribution of children, will become a real exhibition space.

Born in 1910 in Amsterdam by a family of diamond cutters and collectors of art, Leo Lionni soon learned to paint and to know the works of modern artists like Picasso, Miró, De Chirico and Klee and Chagall in particular. Growing up in Holland, the United States and Italy, gained studies
Economics and Commerce in Milan, attending for a short period, the group of Futurist FT Marinetti. Forced to leave Italy in 1939 because of racial laws, he moved to America as a graphic designer working for various magazines and advertising agencies, and eventually became director of
Fortune. Remained constant in its commitment to painting, which led him to exhibit in various personal, not only in the United States but also in Italy. Since 1962, he lived between New York and Radda in Chianti continued to work on painting, sculpture, and especially of books for children, activities that
which saw him busy until his death in 1999 and which led to the creation of masterpieces of literature childhood as Little Blue and Little Yellow, Frederick and Guizzino. Leo Lionni stories that have made one of the most important writers for children of all ages.

Handicrafts workshop (Tuesday - Friday 16:30 and Saturday and Sunday 11.30 and 16.30, an additional fee of EUR 3 per child with reservations required on site; groups of max 10 children's activities from 3 years onwards, the duration of the workshop about 40 minutes);
Library with its space dedicated to reading and meetings with the new publications for children (admission free);
Outdoor games a fascinating forest of birch wood thanks to the achievements of Richter Spielgeräte (activities free of charge with free admission under the supervision of parents or family members).
